Rex and Sharon Hamlet's Home!
I built the Ashland, one of Appalachian's four standard plans that I have built for Rex in 1994. The great room and garage addition added for Rex and Sharon in 1999 was anything but standard. In melded their two families together they needed more space for two sons and Sharon's two daughters. This was accomplished by adding a great room plus a garage with two bedrooms and a bath above. The separate pods were connected with a two-story breezeway. The challenge was for the ground floor to have three separate elevations while maintaining the same elevation at the second floor. |

. To compound this challenge the garage was turned 30% to avoid an existing well and allow easier entrance to the garage. The foundation required a high degree of precision to assure that a structure manufactured in Tennessee would actually fit the foundation and allow floor levels to match. The result was an open great room with a balcony behind a mammoth fireplace and chimney connecting the breezeways and two large bedrooms with a bath between having two private sections |
