THOROUGH PLANNING PRODUCES GOOD FENG SHUI / HAPPINESS

Custom planning to build a log home is a process. Most want their own personal plan. Normally they begin with a very rough pencil sketch, which in most cases is a combination of several standard plans taken from various locations. From the sketch we put together a preliminary plan to scale with all dimensions and space requirements. From this starting point we pass this preliminary plan, via visits, mail or email, back and forth until a workable plan has been derived. This process normally takes four or five passes, one of which is a trip to the site to learn of site conditions and help orient the home if necessary. During the preliminary process, I will plan the heating and air conditioning locations and make arrangements to hide other mechanicals and electrical work. This eliminates the need for mechanical sub-contractors to cut the structural system up during installation.

I will ask the owner to identify, size and locate furniture for my placement on the plan. This exercise allows us to perfectly locate windows and lighting or fan fixtures. These locations dictate the locations of framing members for floor and roof so that placement and symmetry of structural members can be maintained. Posts can be located so as not to impede traffic flow. Once the plan layout has been finalized, we are ready to begin final drawings. The final drawings are prepared in collaboration with an architect or engineer. Signed and sealed working drawings complete with sections and details are finalized and ready for permitting, log manufacturing and construction. With the drawings we also furnish the required energy criteria forms required for permitting.
